Guest Speaker - Anne Marie Whitmore Lenzini
Anne Marie has lived in Woodstock Illinois for 12 years. Prior to that time, she was involved full time as a mother, wife, caregiver, and had a career in management for Four Seasons, Ritz Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, Paris Las Vegas, and The Venetian/Palazzo Las Vegas- luxury hotels in Chicago and Las Vegas. This life involved much travel within the United States and parts of Europe. In working and managing, Anne Marie was able to put her university degree in education to great use.
After spending much of her adult life taking care of others, Anne Marie strove to find something that brought out her passion for the arts and creativity. This led her to reinvent herself and reconnect with the “left side” of her brain by pursuing continuing education at McHenry County College in Ceramics.
One of the greatest challenges in working with clay was to attempt to create “something unusual”. To Anne Marie, this involved collecting antique lace and vintage slip cast molds, many that are no longer made or available. This allowed her to combine old world techniques, that of slip casting and compression of antique lace, with contemporary ceramic practices utilizing molds, changing their original intention, and adding glazes and decals.
The body of work that Anne Marie created has been awarded and acknowledged by her peers in the annual Guild Show and one piece has been acquired for the MCC permanent collection.
Anne Marie is currently the President of the Clayworkers’ Guild of Illinois and is part of the “Artisans on Main” Clayworkers’ Guild shop at 220 main Street in Woodstock, IL.
Tickets include wine, beverages, and light appetizers. (Limit 18)
