United in Prayer Day: Healing Divisions
A day of prayer dedicated to whole-making
in ourselves, our relationships and our world.
St. Ann’s is hosting a prayer group in cooperation
with Contemplative Outreach as part of United in Prayer Day.
All are welcome
This informal gathering offers space & time to pray, reflect, share in the spirit of healing & prayerful unity. For newcomers, it introduces Centering Prayer, a meditative practice of silent prayer. For those with a meditation practice, the day is a chance to join others in extending that practice. The program includes light breakfast, an overview of Centering Prayer, group discussion & sharing, Taizé music, & time for silent prayer.
Centering Prayer: In the early 1970s, Trappist monk Thomas Keating worked to bring people living outside monasteries a form of silent prayer now known as Centering Prayer. With roots in the 14th century book The Cloud of Unknowing, this kind of prayer allows people to sit silently and become receptive to God’s gift of contemplation. Taizé music is chant-like, simple songs repeated many times.
